The Val d'Orcia is an exceptional reflection of the way the landscape was rewritten in pre-reinaissance times to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing picture.
Celebrated by painters from the siennese school, the Val d'Orcia have come to bee seen as icon of the landscape which have profoundly influenced the development of landscape thinking.

Castiglione D'Orcia











The village of Castiglione d’Orcia is situated on a natural terrace, traded across the valley, its countryside spreads from the valley up to the Amiata Mountain.
From the old towers chich dominate the village and the Rocca, one an see the Pennines and Amiata Mountain down to Maremma, passing through its valley and hamlets , with all their colours and perfumes.
The territory has important districts rich in history and natural beauty … Campiglia, Vivo d’Orcia, the old hamlet of the Rocca and the important spa with hot springs. Bagni San Filippo.
History and culture have left their testimony in the castels, the towers, the famous writings of St. Catherine and the paintings of Lorenzetti, di Simone Martini, del Vecchietta etc. Local products are cheeses, wine and its famous Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which is noted for its delicate taste.
