Pienza

"City of Artist", because its most illustrious citizen Pope Pius 2nd Piccolomini demanded that it was projected by the most famous architects of the fifteenth century, as an example of an "Ideal City".
Even today in the main square, one can see the most important examples of fifteenth century architecture.
In the churches one can admire the paintings of Signorelli, Duccio Bonisegna and Vecchietta.
Away from the town centre one finds the church of Corsignano, a beautiful example of Romanesque art.
Famous for its exceptional taste is the Sheep Cheese of Pienza, which has gained from the tradition and the experience of cheese makers of the Orcia Valley.
