The Val d'Orcia is an exceptional reflection of the way the landscape was rewritten in pre-reinaissance times to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing picture.
Celebrated by painters from the siennese school, the Val d'Orcia have come to bee seen as icon of the landscape which have profoundly influenced the development of landscape thinking.

Typical products

Local products of Val d'Orcia vary from the most famous wines as "Brunello di Montalcino" to red wine DOC ORCIA and Sant'Antimo etc.
Other farm products that are famous for their delicacy are Sheep Cheese of Pienza and the Extra Vergin Olive Oil of Castiglione d'Orcia.
The Cinta Senese, for its excellent quality, is used in the most famous salami products whitin Siena and Tuscany.
There is also the cultivation of saffron and the production of honeye etc.
All these local products are of secolar tradition, and are used to create dishes of an healthy and excellent diet

SOME TYPICAL DISH


The most traditional of the dishes is certainly the pici that are country poor dish done with the only water and flour, made by hands untill them assume the form of spaghetti

Other dish typical of the zone is the soup of bread: poor dish that used the leftovers of the soaked and heated bread in a broth of beans and vegetables of field.

For second dishes we certainly remember the grigliate with the beefsteaks of vitella chianina or of mixed meats The game kind with wild boar in damp and the scottiglies of mixed meats have a stronger taste and they remember the country traditions of the days of party
