The Val d'Orcia is an exceptional reflection of the way the landscape was rewritten in pre-reinaissance times to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing picture.
Celebrated by painters from the siennese school, the Val d'Orcia have come to bee seen as icon of the landscape which have profoundly influenced the development of landscape thinking.

The country & parks
The old villages of the Val d'Orcia are situated on natural terraces, and from the towers and castel one can admire the panorama which spreads from the pennines to the Tyrrhenian sea.
The territory of the "gole dell'Orcia" to the woodland slopes of Mont Amiata is a carpet of colours, from the wild Mediterranean bush to fields of a thousand colours, with the vinecards climbing towards the chestnut groves and higher still to the huge trees which adorn the mountain side.
Between the soft rolling hills, calanchi and calcium deposits of the thermal springs, together with the spontaneous growth of wild orchids, one can admire the wildlife , deer, birds etc.

Land of incontaminated nature, one can find old pathways and trekking courses (on foot or horseback) admist the natural beauty
Apart from the natural park of Val d'Orcia, whitin a few Km one can reach the great volcanic group of 1700 mt - Monte Amiata - with its mass of rock is completely covered of greens woods of firs, beech trees and chestnut trees
The whole territory is rich of mushrooms and arboreal kind and protected species as:

The "biotipo of Mediterranean Stain of Montelaccio and Scarcera" sets to the "gole dell'Orcia", where the Maremma ends and it is beginning to climb toward the Mountain Amiata

The "biotipo of the Abetina Bianca" to Vivo d' Orcia that we can consider it as a native kind of the territory of the Amiata

The reserve of Lucciola Bella posts in the heart of the Val d'Orcia as protection of the local fauna

The natural reserve of Pigelleto on the Amiata Mountain with its woods of firs, carpini, maples, the elms etc.
Ancient woods that the Ancient Romans already used for building the ships of the Wars Puniche
